The Buffett Principle: Applying Long-Term Investing to Crypto
Warren Buffett built wealth owning businesses with durable competitive advantages that compounded for decades. He’s dismissed Bitcoin. But what if we applied his investment discipline to crypto?
The logic: Real utility drives adoption. Adoption creates demand. If that demand translates into lasting token value, long-term holders may benefit.
BITCOIN: A 21-million supply limit, enforced by network consensus, with issuance declining toward 2140. A monetary network that operates without a central bank or permission from a financial intermediary.
MONERO: Privacy built into the protocol. Regulatory pressure has pushed exchanges to delist it. That limits accessibility, but in an increasingly AI-powered surveillance world, financial privacy may become more important.
ICP: Decentralized cloud infrastructure with measurable compute economics. Applications consume cycles, purchased by burning ICP. Governance participants can earn staking rewards, while Caffeine AI and Cloud Engines expand ways to use the infrastructure.
The internet existed before smartphones made it ubiquitous. Infrastructure helped unlock its potential.
AI agents may face a similar challenge. Today’s Web2 infrastructure is fragmented across applications, databases, and cloud providers. ICP offers a different approach: frontend, backend, and data running together on-chain.
The Buffett Test:
1. Is the utility durable?
2. Does the token capture economic value?
3. Can the network remain relevant for decades?
Tokens aren’t stocks. Adoption doesn’t guarantee appreciation. Rewards and token issuance must also be considered.
The goal isn’t chasing the next 100X.
It’s identifying infrastructure worth owning for generations.
Ownership over permission. Legacy over hype.
